McCarthy’s Insurance Group County Senior Football League Division 2
John Mitchels 1-10
Templenoe 2-12
The fine weather over the weekend made for a pleasant trip down to Templenoe on Saturday evening, but it wasn’t a successful visit as the home side took the spoils in this County League Division 2 game.
Mitchels started by far the brighter with an early point from Cian Holden, followed by a Darragh Cunnane goal, punching to the back of the net. However, Templenoe settled with points from Michael Hallissey and Colin Crowley, before Crowley goaled in the 5th minute.
It was evenly balanced for the next period, with Sean Moloney and Ciaran White points cancelled out by Aidan Crowley and a Micheal O’Mahony free. Mikey Kelliher levelled it with 20 minutes gone, but a strong final 10 minutes from the home side saw them kick four unanswered points to lead by four at the break, 1-8- to 1-4.
The first 20 minutes of the second half were dominated by Mitchels, who really cranked up the pressure and had points from Darragh Cunnane (f), Paudie White and a Mikey Kelliher free to bring the gap down to one.
This period also saw the introduction of David Sargent for his senior debut and he brought an additional element of pace and direct running to the game.
However, try as they might, Mitchels couldn’t level the game and when Templenoe broke the pressure, points from Brian Crowley and O’Mahony (f), pushed the lead back to 3.
Mitchels continued to push, with Sargent seeing a shot for a goal crash off the crossbar before he pointed. Aidan Crowley and Mikey Kelliher exchanged points, but as Mitchels pushed for late scores, a late goal from Templenoe’s Conor Murphy saw them take both points.
Team: Peter Nammock, Nathan Rogers, Brian O’Donnell, Darragh Hurley, Ciaran White, Pat Kearney, Andrew Kerins, Jack Myers, Stephen Bowler, Mikey Kelliher, Cain Holden, Sean Moloney, Padraig White, Darragh Cunnane, Alan O’Donoghue.
Substitutes: David Sargent, Peter Murphy.

John Mitchels B 2-19
Ballymacelligott B 3-10
After a long trip to Gallarus last weekend, it was a much shorter trip last Saturday evening, when the John Mitchels B team went out to neighbours Ballymacelligott B and came home with the spoils, winning by six points. Congratulations to Sean O’Donnnell and team.

Féile
Congratulations to the John Mitchels u15 Féile team who took part in the Group Stages of the competition in Caherslee on Sunday evening.
The team were in a three team group in Division 2 and had games against Na Gaeil and Listowel Emmets.
The first game against neighbours Na Gaeil saw the teams ending up level, before Mitchels recorded victory against Listowel Emmets.
This meant that the game between Na Gaeil and Emmets was critically important. A victory for Emmets would put Mitchels through to the County Finals, while a Na Gaeil victory would see Mitchels and Na Gaeil have a free-kick shootout to see who would advance.
In what proved to be a well contested game, Emmets took victory, putting Mitchels through to the County Finals.
U16 Central League Division 2
Our u16 team played Churchill in round 3 of the Central Region last Thursday. Mitchels got off to a very impressive start with an early goal from Ronan Harrington and Liam Corkery with a point. Churchill registered their first point of the game but Mitchels took control for the remainder of the half. David Cullinane scored an outstanding goal after bursting through the Churchill defence with Liam doing likewise 4 minutes later to put the contest out of reach.
The 2nd half was a lot more even with Churchill edging it by a point. David netted for his 2nd goal of the game which was followed by a fisted goal by Denis Kerins. Liam closed out the game by adding two further points to his tally. There were some excellent performances around the middle from Eamon Kissane, while Rory Bowler and Liam Costelloe worked tirelessly to keep the Churchill attack out.
With this win, the team have now secured a semi-final place with 2 group games remaining. The next game is Ballymac at home on Thursday 23rd April where the team will hope build on a positive performance.
