McCarthy’s Insurance Group County Senior Football League Division 7A
John Mitchels B 4-9
Kerins O’Rahillys 3-6
John Mitchels ‘B’ team hosted close neighbours Kerins O’Rahillys in what was their first game of the season in Division 7A of the County League on Friday night. And despite it being their first game, they put in a strong performance to take the victory.
Played under floodlights in good conditions, Mitchels started the quicker, with early points from Sean Corkery and Peter Murphy, responded to by a Strand Road point, before Alan O’Donoghue grabbed Mitchels first goal of the game.
Despite Kerins O’Rahillys coming back with a goal of their own, it was a period of pressure by the home team which saw them increase their lead, Sean Corkery pointing, Peter Murphy adding a goal and Tyresse Flaherty pointing before a late point from Jake Hoare for Strand Road making it 2-4 to 1-2 at the break.
Despite an early Mitchels point in the second half, the visitors came into the game with two points for Hoare. Mitchels rallied again with a Cian Holden goal and a Sean Corkery point. Strand Road came back into the game with another goal, but a Cian O’Brien point, Alan O’Donoghue goal meant that they were in control. Despite a late burst from Kerins O’Rahillys with a penalty from Hoare and a two-pointer from the same player, Cian Holden’s late point put the seal on a good performance.

Hogan Cup & Buggy Cup -Tralee CBS
On behalf of the John Mitchels club, we would like to commiserate with the Tralee CBS Senior Football and Hurling Teams who were on the losing end of their respective All-Ireland Football and Hurling Finals. To reach an All-Ireland Final is a significant achievement and although the results didn’t go their way, they put in huge performances and should be rightly proud of their efforts. In particular, we would like to commend our own Mitchels players, Gearóid White, Fionán Brosnan and Luke Hanafin.
St Patricks’ Day Parade- Tralee
The weather was touch and go as the participants gathered at the Rose Hotel ahead of the St Patrick’s Day Parade on Tuesday last. But just as the parade kicked off, the rain stopped and John Mitchels showed how to take part in a parade.
With plenty of colour and noise, it was a very proud John Mitchels contingent who marched up through their heartland; up Mitchels Road and down Boherbee. The locals gave us a huge cheer, turning out in serious numbers to cheer on their local heroes and we were delighted with the welcome we got. Thanks to everybody who turned out to take part and to cheer us on and a special word of thanks to Juvenile Chair Mark McEvoy, who puts in huge work in ensuring John Mitchels puts on a great show every year.
