County League Division 3 Round 6
John Mitchels 1-16 – Listry 1-13

An important result today against a strong Listry side. It was a game that nearly slipped from our grasp, but a determined team effort saw us over the line.

We played some fast, incisive attacking football in the first half, and it showed on the scoreboard as we racked up 1-10 in a dominant opening 30 minutes. Cian Holden opened the scoring with a fine point that set the tone for a productive half.

Goalkeeper Sean Broderick contributed impressively with two long-range efforts (2 pointers) and a well-struck 45, while Paudie White had a standout performance at centre-forward, kicking six points—two of them also impressively from outside the arc. Our goal came from Darragh Cunnane, who finished calmly after a clever offload from Mikey Kelliher, who did brilliantly to retain possession and pop the pass after getting tacked to the ground.

Defensively, we were solid in the first half. A key moment came from Nathan Rogers with a brilliant block to deny Listry a certain score, typifying our effort and discipline at the back.

As expected, Listry came out stronger after the break and began to chip away at our lead. Their full-forward Aaron O’Shea was a constant threat, and they started winning more of the breaking ball, putting our backs under a lot of pressure. However, we showed great resilience and steadied the ship with crucial scores from Cian Holden (his second), two points from John Carmody in midfield, and an instinctive fisted point from Mikey Kelliher from a tight angle.

It was a strong team performance with a great spread of scorers, and a solid defensive display.

Well done to all mentors and squad involved on a big win.

Up the Mitchels!
