County League Division 3 Round 2
John Mitchels 2-10
Na Gaeil 0-15
A fantastic win for our senior men today, as they battled to a hard-earned victory by the narrowest of margins against local rivals Na Gaeil.
Playing against the breeze in the first half, we competed well in midfield, winning key possessions that allowed our forwards to attack with purpose. Mikey Kelliher and Darragh Cunnane were particularly sharp, constantly taking on their men. Mikey was in outstanding form, scoring four points (including a two-pointer) and was unfortunate to see his penalty rebound off the post after sending the keeper the wrong way. Shane Conor who finished with 2, Jack Myers, and Sean Broderick who also finished with 2, also got on the scoresheet, ensuring we went in level at halftime, 0-8 apiece.
Na Gaeil started the second half strongly, quickly pulling four points ahead. We endured a long scoring drought, but we kept fighting. Our breakthrough came when substitute Tyreese Flaherty started a move down the wing, the ball found its way across goal leading to Mikey Kelliher slotting home our first goal. Minutes later, another attack saw the ball spill forward, and Tyreese reacted quickest to poke it home behind the advancing Keeper, giving us the lead with just minutes remaining.
Strong defending in the closing stages secured a well-deserved win. A great team effort—well done to the players and management!
